Freddie Salem, best known as the guitarist for the Southern rock band Outlaws, has died at the age of 70 due to complications from cancer. Outlaws announced the sad news of Salem’s passing with a Facebook post on Monday (September 23). “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to tell Outlaws fans about the passing of our former guitarist Freddie Salem,” reads the band’s post. “Freddie will be remembered for his outgoing personality and passion for music. He was an electric performer and beloved musician and he will be missed.” Salem first joined Outlaws when he was 24-years-old, playing on the Tampa, Florida band’s 1978 album, Playin’ to Win, and stayed in the band for their following four albums. The guitarist’s most recent band, Freddie Salem & Lonewolf, also paid tribute to the late musician on Facebook, writing, “This morning, the Heavens parted for the arrival of a legend. Rock on high, Freddie Salem. Until we meet again.” (People)
